“Schooled” is an earthy character study about a teacher in crisis who discovers a democratic school that teaches him to connect with kids as people.

FULL SYNOPSIS

Fred simmers on brink of burn out from teaching his high school U.S. History class. At home, his loving wife fears he’ll never step up and have kids with her. Fred does want children, but he dreads becoming like his own father. When his students push him a little too far, Fred pushes back way too hard and gets himself fired. Then he runs like hell. Fleeing to Central California, Fred finds refuge in the backyard cabin of Shelliot, his best friend from high school. He meets her husband, Hector, and their two adopted kids that attend an unusual school where Hector teaches. It’s called The Kids’ School. Fred thinks it’s insane because it seems to have no structure: no tests, no grades, no homework, and the students and staff create all the rules as equals. However, the more he experiences juvenile democracy in action, the more Fred questions his fundamental beliefs about power and his role in children's lives.

When Fred hears of the violent death of his former student, he’s inspired to return home. But, can Fred handle the consequences of what happened when he left? And will he have enough courage to finally face the struggles.
