“Walking the talk”

What’s the plan?

We’re happy to share, that a flow of interest is coming our way. What will the week look like, where can I stay, do you already know which speakers will be present, where can I find information?

We’ll answer these questions in this newsletter, starting with the outlines of the week. We’re happy to introduce some of our speakers and participants in the panels. Their contribution will be connected to the theme of the day. Next to that there’s a lot of open space, time to spend with and learn from eachother. And there’ll be time for play and other activities. We’ll keep you posted in the coming weeks.

Where do I stay?

Where you will stay is up to you. We have several options for you that we can organise, or you can find a place yourself.

The options we have are a hotel Kontakt der Kontinenten and a hostel Stay Okay. Other possibilities are a homestay with one of the families or a tent on the conference terrain. If possible: bring your own tent!

Which speakers are confirmed?

We’re happy to share that Sifaan Zavahir (Sri Lanka, left in picture) will join us. Together with Richard Fransham (Canada), Henning Graner (Germany, in picture with Sifaan)) and Je'anna Clements (South-Africa) Sifaan did a lot of work in preparation for a resolution from IDEC, sent to the UN about Children’s right for education and the intention behind the word ‘compulsary’ used in this article.

Their action inspired us to have ‘Childrens’s rights’ as the main theme for this week. We’re walking the talk, can we create a statement or a new action at the end of the week?

Peter Gray and Kageki Asakura

Two other international speakers will join online: Peter Gray and Kageki Asakura. Both of them were speakers at the Summerhillfestival in 2022 and we’re happy that they want to contribute this time as well.

Experts from the Netherlands

Of course we have some national experts from democratic schools: Ruud van Middelaar, Dorianne de Groot, Margo Bruins, Janneke Bergkamp en Claartje van der Grinten. They’ll all have a different contribution to this week. We’ll tell you more in the next newsletter.

Karin Hey, Piet van der Ploeg en Peter Romeling are known for their achievements in different domains. They will be participants in panels and will be introduces in a next newsletter as wel.

Don’t underestimate what you can contribute and introduce yourself on the spot and find some open space to share your personal expertise or interest. We’re in this together.
